Recognizing Student Success
Reesor Park Public School is proud of all of its students.  We make every effort to recognize student achievement through celebration assemblies and earning various awards.  Other forums include:

  • achievement and learning skills
  • annual education plans
  • character assemblies
  • honour roll lists
  • morning announcements
  • school awards
  • volunteer involvement
  • Win-It certificates
  • Got'cha awards

Student Leadership
Student leadership is the foundation of all school initiatives that benefit our student population and community.  Reesor Park Public School is proud to support the following student led initiatives:  student announcers, office assistants, school recyclers, the Terry Fox Run, the Christmas Toy Drive and  Food Bank to name a few.
Student Council
Intermediate students meet regularly to plan school wide activities that enhance school spirit, provide positive leadership and promote the Character Education attributes.
Healthy Schools Committee
In collaboration with our public health nurse, parents, students and staff plan activities to enhance the physical fitness and emotional well-being of all our students.  Some staff members have been trained in Rainbows to support students experiencing difficulty with emotional issues.  Students leaders are trained as Fitness Ambassadors to direct a structured mini workout for all classes.
Play Leaders
This program was first set up through our Healthy Schools committee where older students are trained as playground facilitators to teach/lead the primary students to play games in the school yard.  The program enhances the older students' self-esteem and develops their leadership skills.  Through positive role modeling and structured games, the primary students experience reduced conflicts during recess.
The Reesor Park Letters R. P.
Intermediate students work to earn the Reesor Park letters, through volunteering, music and sports activities as well as various club memberships.  Students receive their letters upon graduation.
Class Reps
Two students from each homeroom class meet monthly with the principal to discuss concerns and problem solve any ongoing issues.  By allowing our students a voice in their learning environment, we believe they will become more effective leaders and citizens.

Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Equity Education
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment.  The York Region District School Board has a Safe Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy.  Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences.
Reesor Park Public School supports the development of Character Education in the York Region District School Board.  While parents, staff and students model positive character attributes in our daily interactions, we also focus on the monthly attributes during the morning announcements and in assemblies.  Individual teachers highlight the attributes in their classrooms.  Students receive "Gotcha" awards for demonstrating the Character Education qualities.
We live in a multicultural, multiracial, multifaith society.  Reeor Park's School Council is reflective of the community, where the majority of our families speak English as their first language.  Reesor Park Public School believes in the intrinsic worth of all students  so that each feels respected, valued and validated.  We celebrate diversity and model equity and inclusiveness in all our programs and practices.  We assist our students to define, detect and reject all forms of discrimination which limit their potential and that of others.

PEANUT SAFE ENVIRONMENT

In order to protect the many students with life-threatening allergies to nuts, we ask that no product containing nuts be sent to school.
